Really it was 2 bucket list items,
1) get Doug to Africa on a safari and 2) see a rhino, my last of the Big 5 to marvel over on safari. Something about seeing an animal in the wild that takes my breath away! Some people say: oh, I’ve seen a leopard, elephant, lion at the zoo— but this is totally different. At the zoo, the animal is in a cage and guests are free to wander. In the wild, YOU are in the cage (safari jeep) and the animals are free to wander.
Hluhluwe is the oldest African game park. They pride themselves on protecting the rhinos in tact, with their horns in place. Kruger Park and others, remove the rhinos’ horns to keep poachers from killing the rhinos for their horns.
